This open was created for the award winning documentary ‘One Child Nation’, a film by Nanfu Wang exploring the dark history and ultimate consequences of China’s one-child policy. It exposes the extent to which babies - specifically female, second child, or twin babies - were discarded or trafficked and taken advantage of in the lucrative international adoption networks.

The title sequence juxtaposes two themes highly relevant to the film, the might of Chinese power and propaganda as seen through the lens of military parades. This is contrasted with the abstracted backdrop of an aborted fetus, one of countless lives lost to the profound social experiment that has had an indelible impact on the Chinese nation.
