The Borgias
Opening Title Sequence
Client: Showtime Networks
The Borgias was one of the most infamous dynastic families that rose to the heights of Renaissance Rome in the 15th century. This opening for the Showtime mini-series uses historical paintings from that period to immerse the viewer into an abstracted world of powerful, seductive imagery that hints at the ruthless corruption, sex and treachery that epitomized the family's rise to power.
An extensive library of liquids and textures was created specifically for this sequence and additional show packaging. Shot at extremely close range and used with the paintings, the painterly textures offered a sense of both the unpredictability and menace which are in keeping with the Borgias dynasty.
